Dear Lauren,

Congratulations on your decision to attend Cornell University – what a fantastic choice! I'm reaching out today to share that you have been selected as an Irene and Morris B. Kessler Presidential Scholar

Each year, 20 high-achieving first-generation students (first in their family to pursue a bachelor’s degree) are invited due to their demonstrated academic achievement and excellence in leadership through service in their communities. Kessler Presidential Scholars are empowered with resources and opportunities to connect with faculty, alumni, and business leaders to grow their campus networks and identify potential career paths.

Kessler Presidential Scholars are also supported with:
  • A welcoming, close-knit community of high-achieving first-generation college students
  • An upperclass peer mentor to help guide and support you during your first year at Cornell
  • A scholarship, which will cover your portion of the Summer Savings Expectation for four years, allowing you to pursue transformative summer enrichment experiences – internships, service projects, academic research, etc. – currently projected at a total savings of $13,200
  • Dedicated professional staff members who will provide academic, social, and career support to help you succeed and thrive at Cornell
  • Opportunities to participate in community service, leadership development, and social events to build lasting friendships and connections
I know that going to college can be an exciting yet scary time, particularly for first-generation students who are beginning new journeys. Our staff is eager to empower and support you in making your experience successful. I hope you will accept our invitation to join the third cohort of Kessler Presidential Scholars at Cornell University. In the next few days, we will send you an email and then give you a call to discuss this unique opportunity and answer any questions you may have. We look forward to speaking with you.
